Impressions of EAES2017

IMPRESSION OF THE EAES CONGRESS 2017 IN FRANKFURT AM MAIN

The 25th congress of the EAES, entitled “Technology and care for the patients” took place in Frankfurt, June 14-17. The meeting was organized in collaboration with the German working group of minimal invasive surgery (CAMIC = Chirurgische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Minimal Invasive Chirurgie) and boasted an excellent scientific program.

This anniversary event has been celebrated by over 1300 delegates from 80 different countries, emphasizing the over- continental dimension of this scientific event – It is more and more evident that the conference is attracting, since some years, an increasing number of scientists and professional from all over the world, to share their experiences and new ideas and foster friendship across the globe.

PRE CONGRESS COURSES

The Wednesday morning and early afternoon have been dedicated, as always, to the pre congress courses, with academy master classes, basic and advanced courses on different aspects of MIS – some of them organised in cooperation with CAMIC (German working group for Minimally invasive Surgery).

TECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM

On the same day, the Technology Symposium achieved resounding success with more than a hundred attendees. In the morning the discussion dealt with the impact of technology on patient outcomes, with particular attention to visualisation systems, robots and electromechanical systems and finally endo-luminal surgery, while in the afternoon as usual the program was fully dedicated to the presentation of Amazing Technologies, for which this year 24 novel ideas were selected.

EAES Congress

These activities were a successful prelude to the Congress, which was opened on Wednesday evening with a tribute to 25 years of EAES congresses and to the protagonists of the EAES history, by a lecture by the Congress President Prof. Karl Fuchs.

An array of face to face debates, parallel unedited videos, a consensus conference on SILS (single access surgery), award sessions, the Surgical Endoscopy Festival, video marathons, free paper sessions and digital poster sessions unrolled through Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

We hope to see you at the 26th EAES Congress in London, May 29 – June 1, 2018!
