Maastricht Run

Start at the Medtronic Truck located at P4 at the MECC

For the early and sporty ones among us, EAES has organised a morning run on Wednesday, 12th June.
We start at 7.30 hrs at the Medtronic Truck located in the parking lot at the MECC: P4.
We will depart in small groups for a run of ± 5 km.
In order to ensure everything runs smoothly, we would like to know whether we can count on you.

Room: 1.7 Pyrenees and 1.8 Blue Mountains
Free admission for registered congress participants
The participants will encounter games and puzzles within the room which bring attention to the carbon footprint of surgical practice. The learning points found within the room relate to:

  • Use of resources, including water, energy and plastic
  • Awareness of waste products generated by the operating theatre environment
  • Surgical equipment choice, including reusability
  • Efficiency in clinical decision making
  • Disease prevention

The escape room format relies on strong communication and collaborative
learning. As such, it is an effective team-building tool. Specifically, the team will:

  • Work together as a multidisciplinary unit
  • Demonstrate prioritisation, communication and decision making skills
  • Manage the clinical environments and patients safely
  • Enjoy a unique, fun and interactive experience!

Pre-congress registration: send an email to info@scrubgames.co.uk with your name, job role, level, phone number and time preference.
Walk-in during congress.

Wednesday 12th June 2024 & Thursday 13th June 2024

FUSE booth
09:00 – 17:00 hrs
Exhibition area: brightlands foyer

If you’re not an expert in the energy devices you use every day… If you’ve witnessed a fire in the operating room and want to know how to prevent it in the future… If you wonder if you could do more to promote safety in the operating room… then visit the FUSE booth! We have a scientific session on this topic.

Surgical energy-based devices are used daily in operating rooms around the world, yet surgeons often lack formal training in their safe and effective use. Let’s change this together.
The FUSE program was initiated by SAGES and is fully supported by EAES.

Technology corner
09:00 – 17:00 hrs
Exhibition area: brightlands foyer

The EAES technology committee is the only committee that also has engineers among its members, and even a mathematician!

In the technology corner, members of the committee showcase the projects they’re working on, often in collaboration with other committee members.

Come and see for yourself!

Sustainability corner
09:00 – 17:00 hrs
Exhibition area: brightlands foyer

We invite you to the journey for the most sustainable and cleanest surgery ever possible. Learn how we’re reducing waste and promoting sustainability in surgical practice. From reducing carbon footprints to implementing eco-friendly materials, see how we’re making a difference.

Join Sustainability and Safety task force for live demonstrations and discussions at the Technology Corner in the exhibition area.
Let’s make healthcare greener together!

Mad Skills Match
09:00 – 17:00 hrs
Exhibition area: brightlands foyer

We invite you to participate to the Mad Skills Match (International Laparoscopic Skills Competition). This competition is an exceptional opportunity for surgical residents from around the globe to showcase their laparoscopic skills, learn from peers, and gain recognition on an international platform. You can register at booth B49 in the Brightlands foyer. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. The two best scoring residents team up, perform the laparoscopic tasks and defend the honour of their country in the finals.

For who: Residents in any surgical specialty, residents not in training, research fellow/ (PhD) students.
Simulators: The International Laparoscopic Skills Competition is designed to test and enhance your surgical abilities through a series of challenging tasks and simulations, on both hands-on (www.lapron.net) and VR-simulators (www.simendo.eu). Both simulators provide and objective and fair assessment of technical skills.
Enhance your skills: Engage in hands-on activities that will improve your laparoscopic techniques.
Gain recognition: Compete for top honours and be recognised among the best surgical residents worldwide
Network: Connect with fellow residents, experienced surgeons, and key opinion leaders in minimally invasive surgery.
