At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the surgical indications and limits of performing a transanal total mesorectal excision
  • for rectal cancer
  • Recall the operative room set up and patient positioning, the recommended instruments and
  • surgical devices
  • Recognise the anatomical landmarks of pelvic surgery and describe the key surgical steps of a
  • transanal total mesorectal excision for cancer
  • Know the most common technical pitfalls and how to troubleshoot them
  • Know the common surgical complications, how to avoid them and how to deal with them
  • Describe the requirements to start a transanal total mesorectal excision programme at their institution
  • Be optimally prepared to participate to a practical ta-TME cadaver course and attend a mentoring
  • programme
