Hands-on courses at SIS2024

Hands-on courses for safer UGI, colorectal or image guided procedures organised by the best trainers in the field, are highlights of SIS2024 in Bucharest.

All hands-on courses are taking place in a state of the art surgical skills centre, fully equipped with the latest fluorescence capable laparoscopic stacks and access to flexible endoscopy. The highly experienced local faculty are joined by international expert faculty from EAES to create a uniquely high ratio of faculty to delegates to provide a high value educational experience.

Thursday 22nd February 2024

The lower GI day will allow an introduction to laparoscopic colorectal technique. A rectal dissection and division with circular stapled anastomosis can be performed. For suitable candidates a side to side stapled intracorporeal anastomosis can be completed. Participants will be able to use the technique of fluorescence angiography using ICG.

Participants that will derive the most value from this complex course already have some laparoscopic experience and are able to suture.

The upper GI day will facilitate an introduction to laparoscopic techniques applied in oesophageal and gastric surgery. Procedures such as laparoscopic antireflux surgery and laparoscopic gastric resection, involving both hand-sewn and stapled anastomosis can be performed. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the utilisation of fluorescence angiography through Indocyanine Green (ICG) and the application of an endoluminal vacuum therapy device.

Participants that will derive the most value from this complex course already have some laparoscopic experience and are able to suture.

By the end of intraoperative ultrasound module the participants will be able to recognise:
– intraoperative anatomy of the liver
– intraoperative anatomy of the pancreas
– intraoperative anatomy of the biliary ways
– intraoperative liver segmentation
– intraoperative assessment of liver lesions

and also to execute:
– exposure of liver, pancreas and biliary ways for intraoperative ultrasound
– intraoperative ultrasound of the liver
– intraoperative ultrasound of the pancreas
– intraoperative ultrasound of the biliary ways
– intraoperative ultrasound guided needle insertion into the liver
– intraoperative ultrasound guided needle insertion into the pancreas
