Dear friends, dear colleagues.
Weeks are going very quickly, and our lives are immersed in a new, unknown and unpredicted situation due to the Covid 19 pandemic. This pandemic has had a deep impact on our lives in all the spheres, but is especially cruel with any scientific activity entailing social life and face to face meetings. EAES cancelled and later converted to virtual the 2020 annual congress. However, we are facing 2021 and EAES wants to try to recover a normal life and activities. I am proud to introduce the 17th IFSES World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, incorporating the 29th International EAES congress, to be held in Barcelona in November 2021. This congress strives to be a real-world congress, trying to include and share the current controversies in minimally invasive surgery at a world level. Barcelona will be the bigger first congress after the pandemic, and one of the main goals will be to permit to meet and stay together (adhering to the safety rules), in a physical manner.
The current main interest of EAES and IFSES is to organise an MIS congress at a world level, and it has been embodied in the congress theme: ‘EAES goes Global’. We are sure that this post-Covid 19 congress will be a great congress, but we need your trust and support.
However, we need to be realistic, and maybe November 2021 will still be too soon to organise a congress, with the pandemic just solved or living the last months which would entail great difficulties for travelling. In this case, EAES & IFSES will organise, in the same way, a real virtual World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, also with the main and unique goal: to create a discussion lapse of time, were everybody can contact, share end enjoy the new techniques, the new technologies and the scientific results that support, as Sir Alfred Cuschieri stated, ‘the bigger advance in surgery developed in less time as it is MIS´.
