At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Understand the surgical indications and limits of performing a transanal total mesorectal excision
- for rectal cancer
- Recall the operative room set up and patient positioning, the recommended instruments and
- surgical devices
- Recognise the anatomical landmarks of pelvic surgery and describe the key surgical steps of a
- transanal total mesorectal excision for cancer
- Know the most common technical pitfalls and how to troubleshoot them
- Know the common surgical complications, how to avoid them and how to deal with them
- Describe the requirements to start a transanal total mesorectal excision programme at their institution
- Be optimally prepared to participate to a practical ta-TME cadaver course and attend a mentoring
- programme
